This application is in a niche market with no other real competitors so it has a pretty big following. I have no objections to the price and have paid license for the application.
My biggest issue is the lack of documentation for the application. The GUI version of the application just leaves you scratching your head at times trying to figure out what some of the buttons do, and after tinkering with them, you can usually figure it out. It will link to IMDB to make it easy for you to search for other movies. You can only use Media Companion on Windows and you will need to install Kodi and the.
NET 4 Client to get it to work properly. TheRenamer will scrape information from Google as well as the big databases such as TV.
This ensures that your files are renamed in the most accurate way. I found it easy to set up TheRenamer and configure it to use the name format that I wanted. You will need to be running Windows 7 or higher to use this good FileBot alternative. TV Rename is an application for organizing your TV show files. To get the best results from TV Rename I recommend that you install Kodi so that it can reference it. One of the good things that I found with TV Rename is that it tells you if you have any episodes missing from your TV file collection.
Another cool feature is that the app will tell you when the TV shows will be on TV next. It is easy to set up the file naming format when you use TV Rename in association with Kodi. I liked this application but it will only work with TV show files and not other files.
This application is for Windows users only and when you first use the application it will request that you tell it where your different media files are located and where you want it to store associated artwork.
Ember Media Manager will then browse through the locations on your computer you specified and create its own database of your media files. After this, you can scroll through the database and change the filenames, artwork and other associated information. There is a scrape function with Ember Media Manager that you can use to match your files.
It was pretty good at finding matches and works really well for TV shows if you use it with Kodi. I was pretty impressed with Ember Media Manager. Media Center Master is a serious FileBot alternative. The free options above will do a pretty good job but if you are serious about organizing your media files then you need to take a look at Media Center Master. This application is for Windows only. You can integrate this application fully with Kodi which makes things a lot easier.
I liked the way that Media Center Manager works in dynamic mode to update your media files when you add new ones. All you have to do is to select the folder for each type of file and then choose your naming convention.
The free version is very good but the premium version has a lot more functionality. I enjoyed playing around and testing these FileBot alternatives. It is great that there are a number of free alternatives available now that FileBot has started to charge. If you want to organize your image files as well as your media files then the Advanced Renamer is a good choice.
The only problem is that if you want the premium version it actually costs more than FileBot. It does offer an incredible amount of features though. If you want to associate your media manager application with Kodi this is a good idea then you will need to download it and set it up. It is not that difficult but it is an extra step. However, there are some limitations to the free version, such as a limit of 50 movies for the scraper.
If you use Kodi, you can use MediaElch as an alternative to Filebot. It is a media manager and a renaming tool. In addition to TV shows and media, MediaElch supports music and concerts, making it a great alternative to Filebot if that is what you want to focus on. If you have a music collection, MediaElch can scrape data about your music files. You can also scrape music art from Fan Art TV. In addition to renaming the files in your directory, you can export all your data in HTML format.
It is a good alternative to Filebot if you want to rename files that are not necessarily films, and you have an old operating system, such as Windows 95, 98, ME, NT, , XP, and Vista. It is old and has not been updated for several years, so you may experience bugs and issues; but for older operating systems like Windows 95 and 98 which are ancient!
This software is available on Github. Sonarr is a bit different from Filebot; it is not really a renaming tool. Instead, it is best for you if you torrent and want to keep your series organized and up to date. Sonarr will automatically track your favorite shows and download the newest episodes. You will see your upcoming releases in your calendar and, if you want, can manually search for missing episodes.
There is not much to Sonarr. It monitors RSS feeds for those torrenting from the web; it is a great alternative to Filebot if you torrent TV shows or movies and would like a way to keep your torrents organized and up to date.
It is basically the same thing, but it is made for music instead of TV shows. It is made for Usenet and BitTorrent users who want to torrent music. It will monitor RSS feeds for new releases from your favorite artists — when it is alerted to new tracks, it will grab them, sort them, and rename them. Lidarr is available from Github. If you are looking for a way to download and organize your torrented music, it is a great alternative to Filebot.
Bulk Rename Utility is a Windows software tool for renaming multiple files with just one click. It offers you a lot of flexibility in terms of the configurations you can set up for renaming multiple files at once. Bulk Rename Utility is a great alternative to Filebot because, unlike Filebot, it is entirely free to use. The exception is if you will be using it for a business or for commercial use, in which case you will be required to buy a license.
A license is not required for personal or individual use. Always check the Bulk Rename Utility pricing page for updated pricing information. The latest version as of the time of this writing was released in September , so the software is being kept updated. Although Ember Media Manager was stopped for a while, new developers have taken it up, and it is now available on Github, with the most recent update as of the time of this writing made only 10 months ago.
You can scrape data, posters, and trailers for movies from IMDB. There is a forum you can follow for updates about the software, where you can get help from other users. Media Companion is a media management tool that lets you catalog TV shows and movies and download data such as posters, fan art, and screenshots for each episode. Media Companion is available on SourceForge. As of the time of this writing, the last update was only five days ago, which means the software is being updated regularly.
The main website of the project can be found here. Unlike Filebot, Media Companion is entirely free to use. However, you can make a donation to keep the project going. As you can see, there are a lot of free Filebot alternatives that are just as good. For simply renaming your files, the best alternative is TV Rename.
